Meet my new favourite foundation. A bold statement, but I think this time I’ve really found the one…
Foundations have come and gone over the years, but few have really done it for me like this one has.
Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation ticks all my boxes:
✓ hydrating on my dry skin
✓ lightweight and comfortable formula
✓ glowy finish
✓ and most importantly; a flawless shade match!
Easily my biggest struggle when it comes to finding a foundation is getting colour matched. I know all my fellow makeup-wearers of colour out there will know the struggle; thanks to brands not stocking diverse enough shade ranges and MUAs just not seeming to know how to work with our skin tones, the beauty department can be a total minefield.
I had kind of hoped the beauty industry had moved forward and the mismatching of foundation was a thing of the past, but my recent experience would prove otherwise. After an unsuccessful afternoon of traipsing around the counters of the Selfridges Beauty Hall on my quest to find a new foundation, I had all but given up. I’d sampled foundations from Too Faced (too cakey), Urban Decay (too ashy), NARS (too drying) & Giorgio Armani (they didn’t stock a shade that matched my skin tone – the lady suggested buying 2 shades and mixing them but my budget just didn’t stretch to that) until I found myself – out of total despair – absentmindedly perusing the highlighters at Laura Mercier – a brand I hadn’t even considered.
The loveliest MUA came over to help me and when I lamented my ashy foundation disaster, she immediately recognised that I needed a yellow-based foundation and quickly identified my perfect shade – ‘Butterscotch’.
Of all the foundations I’ve owned, I truly think this is the best skin tone match I’ve ever owned! If you too have yellow undertones I would seriously recommend trying this range (Smashbox’s Liquid Halo is also worth checking out, full review here).
The word ‘dewy’ is thrown around an awful lot these days but if like me that’s the finish you’re after, this is the foundation for you. Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation leaves your skin with the most beautiful ‘lit from within’ glow that’s still natural enough for everyday wear.
LM’s Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation is delightfully easy to apply too, blending seamlessly into skin with minimal effort. Its lightweight consistency is so comfortable to wear it’s easy to forget you’re wearing a foundation at all.
With is luminous finish and airy formula, this narrowly misses the title of ultimate summer foundation due to the fact that it doesn’t contain SPF! This is pretty much the only downside I’d say, however this can of course be easily combatted by wearing an SPF moisturiser underneath.
At £35 this is one of those splurge items, but if I had to pick one product in your makeup bag that’s worth investing in, I’d definitely say a good foundation gets you the most mileage!
TL;DR – Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation is…
- A perfect foundation match for yellow undertones
- Suitable for dry skin
- Medium coverage with a dewy finish
This was my first Laura Mercier purchase but I will definitely be back for more after trying this – I’m seriously impressed!
